I landed in LA on June 20th and Jennifer my best friend from back home in Sweden flew out and came to Shanes house on the 22nd. We went to six flags with Glenn and Eric her first day in the states and then we rented a car and drove to Vegas with Shane. I drove most part of the way as Shane had no drivers license and Jen was too freaked out by all the different lanes and the intense traffic in LA. In Sweden there is not really any bumper-to-bumper traffic and no 6 lanes freeways with 80 exits in on city.
Finally we made it to Vegas and Vanessas house, while me and Shane were getting rave ready to go to Electric Daisy Carnival, Vanessa showed Jen around the strip.
Electric Daisy Carnival, Vegas 2011
EDC was intense, starting at 7pm and endin at 7am, in a speedway arena in the middle of the desert, 35 degrees even at night and packed with around 100 000 ravers. First night me and Shane saw Borgore, Dirty South, Wolfgang Gartner, Tiesto, Subfocus, Steve Aoki and Major Lazer.
The second night, Saturday 25th we saw the Glitch Mob, Bassnectar, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, David Guetta, Rusko, Jack Beats, Feed me, Skrillex. I was so exausted after as I was driving home and traffick was aweful. We made a breakfast stop at Ihop before returning home. Shane spent the days sleeping while I was running around Vegas with the girls. The last night of EDC Jen deiceds to come with us and as loads of peopel are exhausted from two intense days raving there are loads of Sunday tickets for sale on facebook. She gets her ticket for 60 bucks and we all go.
She was amazed, but to be honest who wouldn’t be. When you walkt trough the doors and stand high up on the benches looking out over the arean it must be the most magical thing you can lay your eyes on. Like an adult disneyland with extremly friendly, half naked people (because of the heat) in coloful outfits, with uv paint, glasses, candy and fluffy boots. It was PLUR all the way and to be honest one would expect more fights and disturbances at the nations biggest electro music festival but they said it was a calm festival and the Saturday it was 120 000 ravers there.
Anyway Sunday was epic, we saw Avicii, Alesso, Swedish House Mafia, Ferry Corsten, Infected Mushroom, Bingoplayers, Laidback Luke, Dada Life, Dash Berlin, Showtek, Markus Schulz, Datsik, Doctor P and Ferry Corsten. We also had time for a few carnival rides and a couple of drinks. EDC was truly epic and after being emerged in its awesomeness I cannot do anything else but long back to it and look forward for EDC Vegas 2012.
After EDC I spent 4th of July in San Bernadino with Drew, Caitlin and Drew’s family, then I went down to San Marcos with them and stayed with Gabriel and Kyle for 2 weeks even though it was suppossed to be 5 days. Time just flies by when you’re having fun. After lazy days playing football, horse back riding, chilling by the pool and going to the beach I managed to get my bum up to LA for a day. Went to the amazing Huntington Library with Steph and spent the afternoon shopping at Venice. Venice has such a special vibe but it is so nice, streety, artsy with a different crowd than in the more urban hip parts of LA. I finally had to say goodbye to Drew, Caitlin, CJ, Gabriel, Kyle and Joe and to CSUSM to get my bum up to NoCal.
As time was running out and I soon had to go home, I hitchhiked up to the Bay Area to visit Meghan in San Fransisco. First night out in San Fran I realized one can also call it the capital of the homeless, I’ve never before seen so many homeless people. I know SD has a lot of them but this was different, every corner, alley, side street or bus stop was filled with homeless people. At night they were everywhere and I guess that s the reflects on what a “great capitalist country the US is”. Anyhow I spent a handfull of days with Meghan in Davis and we went south of lake Tahoe hiking, sliding down waterfalls at the side of a mountain, having bonfires and drinking with her friends. Managed to see a lot of San Fran, did some shopping, visited the nicest starbucks I have seen so far in one of the Hilton Hotels, maybe with the exception of one Starbucks on Champs Elysee in Paris. Also visited Pier 39 and saw the walrusses but it was a bit too touristy for my taste. We watched the old prison Alcatraz from far away, saw the golden gate bridge, had a beer in a park and then walked to the Mission. On our way to Megs favorite cafe we passed “the three sisters”, three famous houses from the TV-show “full house”. San Fransisco was amazing, such a nice city. A bit too cold for my taste but with lots to do, friendly people, good nightlife and a real mix of cultures. Definitely have to come back soon.
LA and Audiotistic
At the end of June I finally had to go back to LA to Shanes, we spent days shopping, hanging out with Haley, Hank, Mike, Justing etc and evenings playing with his new puppy, a little tiny Corgi. Audiotistic came up on the 3oth of June in San Bernadino and I went with Shane, Drew and Caitlin. It was truly a blast to all be together again and we saw Porter Robinson, Diplo, Major Lazer, Flux P, Doctor P, Chrystal Castles, Super8 Tab, Mat Zo, Bingoplayers, Showtek and Datsik. I also ran into Nikki and her bf there and some other people from CSUSM. It was so much fun and while the guys talked about returning there for Nocturnal festival I was already packing in my mind.
I flew back home first week of August, LA to Heathrow then Heathrow to Stockholm. First time back home in 6 months, almost a year as I only spent 5 days in Sweden in January. It was weird but it was also such a relief to be back, as soon as I got into my dads car I passed out.
